How to choose a domain name for your business

Pick an address that is easy to say, type, remember, and keep as your business grows.
How to choose a domain name for your business

A domain is an address customers hear in conversation and later type from memory. A name tied to one narrow service may become restrictive as your work grows. Test it as a communication tool before buying it.

Say it and spell it

Tell a few people the proposed name and ask them to write it without seeing it. If several spellings seem likely, customers may land elsewhere. Apply the same test to long names, unexplained numbers, and many hyphens. A brand name or short related phrase often lasts longer than a domain listing every service.

Check ownership and future use

Register the domain in an account the business can access long term. Renewal dates and login details should not live only with an outside contractor. Check for confusing similarity to other brands and consider whether the name can cover future locations or services.

Keep the path consistent

Use the same domain on your business page, email signature, and main profiles. If you later change a page address, keep older links working; our URL-change guide covers the handoff.
